The very first time I watched My Fair Lady I remember being completely entranced by Audrey Hepburn. I loved her personality as Eliza Doolitle and loved the transformation she made to become a lady. I found myself wishing that someday I would make a similar transformation. But what I remember most about the film was her fashion. One dress in particular stood out to me each time I watched the movie. It was the elegant white lace gown with black and white striped bows and ribbons. At times I would pause the film and stare at the dress. Other times I would Google the image and study the design and shape of it. Since I have been a little girl I have absolutely loved the dress.
After designing about twenty different dresses for this contest, I was trying to decide which one to enter and one dress in particular kept coming to my mind. It was a modern dress designed after the one Audrey Hepburn wore in My Fair Lady. I pictured a sturdy, yet movable material for the design. My favorite fabric choice would be a Silk Embroidered Organza.
In addition to the trendy adaption of the My Fair Lady dress, the design is quite versatile. If desired, it can turn into a semi-formal dress by having the bow and dress monochromatic and using fabric such as:
- Casa Satin
- Crepe-Back Satin
- Polyester Shantung
- Taffeta (For a fun, party dress)
- Wool (A spin on the winter classic)
Just as Audrey makes a grand transformation in My Fair Lady, this design is also capable of transforming into various styles depending on the look desired.
